Kenji Kojima / RGB MusicLab
http://www.kenjikojima.com/rgbmusiclab/
RGB MusicLab converts RGB (Red, Green and Blue) value of an image to chromatic scale sounds. The program reads RGB value of pixels from the top left to the bottom right of an image. One pixel makes a harmony of three note of RGB value, and the length of note is determined by brightness of the pixel. RGB value 120 or 121 is the middle C, and RGB value 122 or 123 is added a half steps of the scale that is C#. Pure black that is R=0, G=0, B=0 is no sounds.

My First Book...Well Sort Of
http://mademistakes.com/blog/my-first-bookwell-sort-of
The other day I finally got around to downloading Blurb's BookSmart™ software to layout my book. In the future I really want to create an art book using all my journal drawings, writing, and collages and then get it printed with a hardcover. So to test out the service and see how good the print quality is I created a simple book using photography my girlfriend Wendy and myself took over the past six months.
Using the BookSmart™ software is super easy. You can link up to online websites (ie: Flickr and Picasa) that might be hosting your photos for easy importing or you can point it to a folder on your hard-drive. Once your photos are imported you can start dropping in photos, giving them captions, adding blocks of copy, and much more. There are a few themes to choose from and numerous templates to get that perfect page layout.
After proofing the pages on screen and making sure everything looked how I wanted, I uploaded my book to Blurb's site. From here I was able to order copies and make it available to the public to view and purchase. I think this is great if you want to create books and sell them on the cheap since you don't have to pay a fortune for a large print run. Print on demand is great!
You can preview the first couple of pages from my book and check out a ton of other great books for inspiration.
I'll follow up with a future post once I get the book and analyze the quality. With the holidays in full bloom it might take an extra week to print and ship. I sure hope it arrives in time for Christmas...

My First Attempt at Painting with Light Beams [2]
http://mademistakes.com/blog/my-first-attempt-at-painting-with-light-beams
Last night I decided to paint with light and see if it was anything I’d be interested in. Gathered up a small flashlight, tripod, Canon Rebel XTi dSLR, and I was ready to start shooting. Got my composition set with the lights on, put the camera into manual mode, set the exposure to 15 seconds, opened the aperture, set the self-timer, flipped the lights, and hit the shutter.
Painting in the dark with light beams reminded me of blind contour drawing. It lends itself well to gestures and large expressive strokes giving off an eerie glow sometimes. I’m a big fan of blind contour drawing, especially with pens and ink washes so this was right up my alley. There is something about the unpredictable nature of the lines and compositions that really appeal to me. That and there’s always that element of surprise when you finish and get a good at the work you produced.
I found it hard to create fine lines with my flashlight or do any sort of small details and lettering. I’m going to look into getting a laser pointer or small LED flashlight with some power for future experimentation. I think if I use a larger flashlight to paint broad strokes and then go back in with a laser pointer for the details, I’ll get better results.
Or I could just buy some cheap LED’s and other assorted parts to assemble my own LED Light Drawing Pens.
