Goodbye Movabletype

After three years I’ve finally dumped Movabletype and shifted everything over to Wordpress. I got the basic site form of my site up by importing old MT database into WP and restyling some things. Surprisingly it all went fairly smooth. What’s left for me to do:

  • Clean old entries
  • Swap out all of the old portfolio images with larger ones and detail shots for each piece
  • Rewrite my about page
  • Update my resume page
  • Maybe tinker with the stylesheets (I’m pretty set on the look and feel right now so I doubt it’ll change drastically)

I’m sure I’m forgetting some other stuff but it’s time to watch a movie. I can’t sit in front of this computer anymore.

Upgraded to MT 3.2

Just finished upgrading to Movable Type 3.2BETA. Took me about 5 minutes to figure out why I was getting errors. I just had to redo my cfg files and reset all the database paths. After that it upgraded painlessly. I really like the cleaned up interface and new colored icons.

Rebuilt

Finally got ride of the Flash splash page. I wanted to do some fun things with it, but I couldn’t come up with a simple solution for updates. I’m no programmer and didn’t feel it was necessary to jerry rig some sort of flash xml reader just so I continue to use Movable Type as a CMS solution.

Moved everything out of the test directory and rebuilt the site. So far nothing seems broken, just need to clean a few things up so my feed doesn’t look so screwy.

Too Hot in Here, I Hate You

Ok, I am still testing the rough rough layout of this. Everything seems to display somewhat correctly and my CSS and HTML validates fine. Now to add in the subtle touches, design some background, buttons, banners, headings, etc. It should all stay simple to let the work stand out on its own. I can’t tell you how sick I am of seeing the two column shuffle. Why does everything have to look like a frickin’ blog. Sure they’re usable but do they have to be so bland and boring. Even the graphically rich ones look the same.

Well whatever. I just want something that is easy to update and customizable because I will change my mind over and over again. I figure about 10 posts before I scrap this and let the domain collect dust again.
